God’s Little Giant
Sister Hicks had told me that she was prepared for him to go but she had asked God to give her a definite answer to Webster’s spiritual position with Christ. I believe there are times when the Lord answers our prayers in very explicit ways. I witnessed one such answer.
About two days before Webster passed on, I arrived at his bedside. I asked Ida how he was doing and she indicated not very well, but was he calmer today. I asked if he had attempted any communication and she replied that he had not.
It was not more than a few minutes after my arrival that he opened his eyes and looked directly at me. This prompted me to be to speak to him and I asked him if he knew me. He indicated that he did and then he looked into my eyes and said, “I have a home”. I replied that I knew he did in Lamont (the town where he lived). He shook his head and repeated “I have a home” and this time pointed upward. I asked are you talking about heaven? He then said in a very clear and stronger voice, ” I am so proud of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ” having said this he again closed his eyes. Sister Hicks related to me that although she was with him most of his final hours, he never spoke another word in her hearing. Several times Ida related what a wonderful comfort Webster’s words were to her.
It was my pleasure to officiate and preach Webster’s memorial service. You may question my use of the word pleasure concerning a funeral. I have always treasured the privilege to speak at the passing of a Christian. This was the only time that the deceased had directly given me the title of my memorial message before they passed. I took John 14:1-2

Ida lived several years after Webster died. I left Arvin in September of 1988. The last time I saw Sister Hicks was in May of 1995 and she was still going to church when her health would aloud and still singing praises to the Lord. Just a few months latter, she went to be with her Lord.
She was a real giant of the faith but she was also very human. She was a mother, a wife, a sister and a friend. Many times when we are privileged to meet such people, we tend to think of them in terms of super-spiritualness. However, if we are also blessed by getting to know these wonderful saints of God, we realize they are just people much like ourselves. They are people who have learned to see life from God’s point of view. They strive to live lives that brings honor to their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
No matter what our physical stature, or circumstance of life we can be giants in the faith. God indeed uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary results if they place their full trust in Him.
