No Vacancy
I’m the type of traveler that rarely makes reservations ahead at motels or R.V. parks. When I am on vacation I do not want to be tied down to a set place and time. I have not often found this to be a problem. This includes the three years that my wife and I traveled on business in a C-class motor home for Biblesoft Software.
Some of the best memories I have of those days on the road were the detours we took to see some historical site or park or just things we ran across by not sticking to the Interstates. There were times, like Mary and Joseph, that we found there was no room in the Inn. The flashing no vacancy signs meant we just had to go on down the road but we were never left without a place to stay overnight.
Worse than not being able to find lodging is when people are seeking employment and everywhere they apply they are told the are no vacancies that they can fill. The heartbreak and frustration of the unemployed is one of life’s great tests of faith.
No vacancy is usually regarded as a negative phrase whether you are a traveler or a person seeking employment. However, there is a least one situation where it is a very positive statement. We are born with a vacancy in our lives. A void that only Christ can fill. Many try for years to fill this chasm with many things but it is only when we become followers of Him and take Him as our Lord and Savior, that He fills that void and there is no longer a vacancy. No Vacancy: a great state of being full indeed.
